The Galt Country Club, which is among the 25 oldest courses in the province, was voted among the Top 50 course in Ontario by the Ontario Golf Magazine.
The Galt Country Club is also proud to say that Cambridge native and PGA Tour professional Ian Leggatt joined Galt in his early teens. He was made an Honourary Member in 2003 and held the course record of 62 up until recently that he shot back on August 11, 1989. “I think it’s a great golf club to be a member at and it’s a terrific walking course. It’s fairly short and tight by today’s standards, but that really taught me to manage my game and helped me to think carefully about my shots” says Leggatt, who returns every summer to play at least a couple of rounds. “Galt Country Club will always be the course that I love to go back and play. It’s where all the people and friends that I grew up with learning the game are members and I have so many great memories from that time in my life.”
"Galt Country Club is an awesome golf course, it is short but it has such great character. Ever since I joined nine years ago it has been a real treat shaping my shots around the tight well guarded fairways and learning to putt on very fast, small tricky greens. The Junior Program has always been unreal. We have interclub games with Cutten Club, Westmount, Brantford, and Hamilton which is nice to play some very good golf courses, not to mention the competition from all those clubs. Playing Hamilton at a young age helped me to strategize during the 2006 Canadian Open. Galt has consistently had a great program for developing young talent. The club and all the members will do anything for any of the juniors, not only on the golf side but I have also learned a lot of good life lessons and have had many good business talks with various members too. I spent every summer playing golf and building other new relationships. Galt really became my second home." |
